Saifun licenses its IP to semiconductor manufacturers who use this technology to develop and manufacture a variety of stand-alone and embedded NVM products. These include Flash memory for the telecommunications, consumer electronic, networking and transportation and other industrial markets. According to industry analysts Web-Feet Research, the total Flash memory market including stand-alone and embedded components accounted for over $21.7 billion in sales in 2004 and is expected to reach $40.8 billion in 2009.
The primary factors driving growth in the NVM industry are the emergence of new and broader memory applications and demand for increased memory content, both expanding in parallel with the proliferation of devices and products incorporating NVM as an essential component. Examples include mobile phones, still and video digital cameras, portable computers, portable digital music players, digital video recorders, set-top boxes, DVD’s, communication routers and switches, digital televisions and other electronic systems. Manufacturers are demanding: (1) improved performance - increasingly faster read and write speeds to access code and data, (2) higher reliability - the ability to read and modify stored information repeatedly without adversely impacting reliability, and the ability to retain stored information for an extended period and (3) at lower cost per MByte. As a consequence, semiconductor manufacturers are continuously seeking advancements to existing technologies and exploring new technologies in order to meet these requirements and lower their costs.
Saifun’s NROM breakthrough solutions overcome essential limitations of conventional floating-gate technology, offering a single process for all NVM applications, lower cost per megabit, unparalleled scalability, and the industry’s first and only four-bits-per-cell technology. |
